For many years now, we have worked with an amazing charity, Children on the Edge who are based in our home town of Chichester and work tirelessly for those children around the world who are literally, 'on the edge'. We have big ideals and small pockets so we try to be creative about how we help.
In the last five years we have run the 'bags of cash scheme' where our store customers are asked to donate a coin for every carrier bag they use when making purchases. This has been a fantastic success with nearly £60,000 raised since the scheme started. If you are one of these generous customers, thank you for all you have donated so far!
We also partner Children on the Edge with many other events including the Easter Chocolate Trail in Chichester. This was the first ever event which we helped them with and that was over ten years ago (yes we have lost count!). We have seen rain, snow and even sunshine on this day but it always brings out hundreds of children happy to hunt for chocolate and learn a little about children less fortunate than themselves.
Staff from Montezuma's have visited some of our projects and seen the impact their fundraising can have. Demelza, who heads up our mail order centre, visited their Child Friendly Space in Moldova and said: "It was the most humbling experience of my life to date - a truly inspirational place where children can simply 'be' children, forgetting their difficult and troubled home lives if only for a few hours a day."
Wesley, our General Operations Manager also spent 10 days in Uganda in 2015 at the COTE playscheme. Read his blog post. Warning-tissues at the ready!
Since its first running in 2012, we have been one of the major sponsors of the Children on the Edge Chichester Half Marathon, which last year raised £32,000.
In 2014, so-founders Helen and Simon cycled the entire length of the Pyrenees - that's 720km and 22 cols or peaks! Their small team of four raised nearly £15.000.
As you can probably tell, we love Children on the Edge and everything they do. Read more about their amazing work www.childrenontheedge.org and you'll understand why we are so proud to help in our small way.
